About Membership
We extend a warm invitation to funder institutions, individual philanthropists, and philanthropic advisors to join the Funders’ for Civic Participation (FCCP), an inclusive philanthropic community dedicated to amplifying the voices of all people in our democracy. FCCP envisions an open and equitable representative democracy with a strong, inclusive civic infrastructure that enables all communities to participate and shifts power to the people.
At FCCP, we believe in fostering a more equitable and just democracy by addressing the systemic and systematic barriers ingrained in our democratic institutions. Our mission is to organize the philanthropic community to make transformative investments that expand and reimagine democracy and civic participation. FCCP accomplishes our mission by:
- Convening funders at the local, state, and national levels,
- Catalyzing partnerships between philanthropy and democracy movement organizations,
and
- Curating space for learning, strategy, accountability, and collaboration.

2024 Update
After 5+ years of leaving FCCP’s dues structure unchanged, we are introducing a new membership model that better aligns with the current market (as informed by extensive research), responds to the realities our sector has navigated since 2017, and positions FCCP as welcoming to an expanded membership with enhanced benefits. These changes will coincide with the launch of our 10-year strategic plan and be rolled out over time.
The first step is shifting from a calendar year basis to a renewal year basis for memberships. In other words, rather than all dues needing to be renewed January 1 of each year, renewals will now take place on an anniversary date basis. The second step is a restructuring of our sliding scale for dues, expanding the number of levels and increasing rates modestly. Further information appears below. With these steps, we believe these changes will provide both members and FCCP better financial and planning flexibility.
Eligibility + Dues
Annual membership dues are collected on a anniversary year basis and calculated on a sliding scale based on your organization’s or supported donor’s overall grantmaking budget.
Institutional Members
Membership is open to all family foundations, community foundations and other grantmaking institutions—such as public charities, corporate foundations and labor organizations—that make significant 501(c)(3) grants, support FCCP’s mission and abide by FCCP policies.
Philanthropic Advisors and Individual Donors
Membership is open to individual donors and to philanthropic advisors with current clients (whether foundations and/or individual donors) with significant giving to support 501(c)(3)-allowable work aligned with FCCP’s commitments to improve democratic practice, increase civic participation, and promote the engagement of all people in civic life. Individuals and advisors are able to join at this level when it is not feasible for the institution they represent to be members. Because FCCP is a solicitation free space, it is understood that philanthropic advisors do not seek new business in FCCP forums.
