Community Transformation: Creating Our Collective Future
Register for the 2010 Annual Conference and Celebrate 30 Years of NFG! Don't wait until the last minute!
Register now for the NFG 2010 Conference. Our 2010 conference theme, Community Transformation: Creating Our Collective Future, will be our roadmap to explore the many facets of social justice philanthropy in the beautiful Twin Cities. Celebrating our 30th Anniversary, the NFG 2010 conference will explore how philanthropy is working to transform communities into places that support and empower the people who live there.
As part of our 30th Anniversary celebration, we will be featuring many forms of art throughout the conference and involving youth leaders, art and media in creative ways. A world class theater and arts scene and natural vistas are just a few of the wonderful opportunities awaiting visitors to the Twin Cities! We have created an exciting program including:
NFG Social Justice Institute
The Social Justice Institute is a multi-session learning series that utilizes the experiential knowledge of participants, creates a network of social justice philanthropy practitioners, and offers a training that engages grantmakers in the study of power and money as tools for social justice movement building. The purpose of this Institute is to provide a professional development and a peer exchange session for new and established grantmakers working in or interested in the field of social justice.
Minnesota Neighborhood Institute
The Minnesota Neighborhood Institute will focus on a range of issues that will not be covered in the larger conference and will provide a unique opportunity to get a comprehensive review of Minnesota neighborhoods and the local philanthropic community. Institute participants will learn about innovative programs and collaborative efforts to transform Minnesota neighborhoods into diverse, livable communities. Local funders and nonprofit experts will provide in-depth information about how Minnesotans have approached neighborhood revitalization and community building efforts and the steps they have taken to make them successful.
Keynote Speaker Robert Kuttner
Robert Kuttner is co-founder and co-editor of The American Prospect magazine, as well as a senior fellow at the New York think-tank Demos. Robert's new book, A Presidency in Peril, deals with the financial crisis, its economic consequences, and the related political and regulatory issues of President Obama's first year. He is the author of eight other books, including the 2008 New York Times bestseller, Obama's Challenge: American's Economic Crisis and the Power of a Transformative Presidency. Please join us to hear this thought-provoking speaker!
Engaging and Informative Plenary Sessions
"Wall Street Vs. Main Street." Millions of jobs, homes, pensions have been lost to financial engineering and outright greed and corruption. Citizens are rightfully angry, but how is that rage being channeled? Across the country, advocates and organizers are strategizing about how to build a bold, catalytic movement that redirects public resentment over bank bailouts toward a fight for transformative economic change. This closing plenary will explore the ideas, interests, strategies, and policies that are working to defend values of Main Street. Speakers include George Goehl, NPA, Stephen Lerner, SEIU, and Heather McGhee, Demos.
