Collection of Voting Technology Research Papers Available

The ongoing debate over the role of technology in elections has provoked a great deal of research on the topic. The recent VoteID 2009 Conference, the Second International Conference on E-voting and Identity, featured 11 papers which examine the current state of research and development in voting technology.

The papers cover a wide range of issues, including voting technology in the United States and around the world.

Improving State Voter Registration Databases Report Issued by National Academy of Sciences

In a recently released report funded by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, the National Academy of Sciences makes a series of recommendations to improve statewide voter registration databases.

Short-term recommendations include new approaches to how voter registration information is disseminated, improved voter education and changes related to administrative processes such as human review of registrations that are computer-indicated for removal. read more >>

Pew Report Examines Census Preparations in Philadelphia and Other Major Cities

A new study from The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Philadelphia Research Initiative finds that Philadelphia is lagging behind other major cities in mounting the kind of local outreach and awareness campaign for the 2010 Census that many experts consider important for achieving a full count.read more >>

Demos Releases Response to Report Linking Welfare Reform to Declining Voter Registration

Today, Demos released a report by R. Michael Alvarez of California's Institute of Technology and Jonathan Nagler of NYU entitled Declining Public Assistance Voter Registration and Welfare Reform: A Response which examines the statistical claims put forth by in a recent report from the Heritage Center for Data Analysis (2008) titled Welfare Reform a Factor in Lower Voter Registration at Public Assistance Offices. read more >>

The ACLU has released a report entitled Voting Rights in Indian Country: A Special Report of the Voting Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union

This report highlights the litigation the Voting Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties
Union brought, or participated in, on behalf of American Indians in five western states—

Project Vote Releases Assessment on 2009 Federal Election Legislation Threats and Opportunities

With the final Congressional session of 2009 underway, voting rights attorney Estelle Rogers and Project Vote Research Associate Erin Ferns assess the potential dangers or gains represented by omnibus election legislation and other proposed election reforms currently being considered in both houses.
